Photo: Grafton's famous Jacarandas starting to bloom (Gwydir Hightway, South Grafton)
Grafton is located roughly 300ks south of Brisbane, capital of Queensland, and 600ks North of Sydney, capital of NSW. Grafton's natural landmark is the mighty Clarence River, which separates Grafton and South Grafton. Grafton is known as the first city on the North Coast of NSW, and the Jacaranda City. Every November the streets are carpeted in the mauve, scented flowers of the (imported) Jacaranda Trees, which are planted all along the streets in Grafton.
